Dissident Mama, episode 58 – Foundring

Foundring is the moniker of pianist and singer/songwriter Kylan deGhetaldi who just released an album entitled “Shut It Down.” With a specialty in ragtime and early jazz, Kylan started one of the first YouTube channels featuring ragtime and “stride” piano. But Foundring is also known for his satirical songs about conspiracies and other social commentary, some of which have been suppressed, with a few being outright banned by the technocrats. Kylan has been a touring member of the international sensation Postmodern Jukebox, with whom he has performed in over 50 cities on four continents.

When he’s not triggering the feelz of YouTube and Band Camp censors or performing live, the Santa Cruz-native is also proud dad to a 10-year-old daughter, as well as a top-ranked Scrabble player and one of the world’s fastest anagrammers.

Kylan and I discuss the role of the modern court jester, the power of flying under the censorious radar, memetic warfare for narrative control, trolling the gatekeepers in order to break through the algorithms, artistic supply and demand, covid-era struggles, present-day pivots, how Cali rebels need a cool name, music, and more.

Would suggest that a,”banner” be run at the bottom of the screen showing the words [ the “lyrics” ] of the song,as it is sung. The words are wondefully creative and original, but, unfortunately, the listener/viewer can not always quite comprehend the performer’s pronunciations. And,to miss some of the words is to miss quite a bit from this artist.

That’s funny you should say that because I usually just enable the close-captioning when watching his vids, lol. But if you don’t want to do that, I guess Foundring was thinking ahead, so he also includes the lyrics along with his videos. All you have to do is click the “show more” option on youtube or “more” on Odysee which are available underneath each video description. So glad you want to know exactly what he’s saying because as the true logophile that he is, each and every word really is so vital to the song and overall message.
